Inventory Spotlight - 1959 Edsel Corsair
Bill Allphin from Burlington, KY has recently sent us these pictures of the stunning miniature replica of Daniel Schmitt and Co.'s 1959 Edsel. We asked him to tell us more about this intricate process. Bill wrote:
I've been into building model cars since I was a kid (I am about the same age as this Edsel). I graduated to the full-size cars once I reached adulthood (currently restoring an actual 1968 Charger RT for a client) But my love for these little cars has always been there. I guess my mother was right......I'll never grow upI've always been a fan of the late 50s and early 60s cars. Be them miniature or full size, makes no difference. The model in question was originally and only produced in 1959. I bought it a few years ago, as a completely unbuilt kit still in its original box. And when I stumbled onto the pictures of the actual car you show. I knew I had found my reference car to replicate. My build is painted in a light turquoise lacquer with the matching turquoise and white two-tone interior to resemble your listing; all topped off with several coats of clear lacquer to protect it and bring out the shine. All the chrome is the original as produced in 1959 by the manufacturer. The side trim was replicated with a product called Bare Metal Foil. Which is an extremely thin adhesive backed product designed exclusively for model cars. The interior was the done in the same 2 tone using the same turquoise with white lacquer and the carpeting was replicated with a product called embossing powder (another trick of the trade in the modeling world).I try to build these cars to the best of my ability in an attempt to recreate the subject matter as close as I can, within reason. I've even done several builds for customers to replicate their actual cars, or cars they used to own.Should any of your clients desire to have a table top replicate of the new car, send them my way; I may be able to help.I love the Edsel shown and am so glad I found your pictures online.I’ve attached several pictures of the model. Thanks again and have a great Holiday
